Sandblasting and sandblasting alone is the green way:
When we work with a vintage piece and refinishing is needed, our pieces get sandblasted. This is the best way to get in the hard to reach places and fully remove any amount of paint or debris that might be rust forming…Yet the other main reason for sandblasting is that has virtually no impact on the environment. Chemical stripping and acid dipping are extremely toxic and no matter the precautions taken the run offs still end up in the earth. Sandblasting and sandblasting alone is the green way.
METAL: Powder Coating is Environmentally Sound
Powder coating has minimal impact on the environment. While all other (liquid) finishes contain pollutants - known as V.O.C. (volatile organic compounds) - powder coating does not contain any solvents and releases a minimal quantity (if any) of VOC.In addition, most of the powder coating overspray that does not stick to the piece being treated and can be reused, eliminating the vast amount of waste commonly found in liquid processes.
WOOD: Water based or Low VOC is our staple.
We offer water based products unless otherwise requested or needed for the particular application the piece will be used for. We use products from manufacturers providing a full range of environmentally responsible products that deliver beauty and protection, while meeting or even exceeding the most stringent environmental regulations. It is crucial to us that these manufacturers takes steps to minimize their/our environmental impact by:
- striving to ensure that any environmental impact is minimized. From formulation through manufacture and beyond, we keep our environmental commitment top of mind.
- Offering a range of products, including those that are low-VOC and which help achieve LEED® credit* toward green building standards.
- The use of sustainable raw materials in their products, such as linseed and soya oils, whenever possible.
- The use of recycled and recyclable materials in their packaging, including up to 25% recycled steel, 10% post-consumer, in the metal cans.
- Always thriving to reduce the amount of solvent in their low-VOC formulas to lessen the vapors emitted into the atmosphere.
- Formulating many of their coatings to clean up easily with soap and water, rather than with harsh solvents and also have made many of their products low-odor to help improve indoor air quality.
- Reducing the waste produced in their manufacturing processes, and implementing energy efficient methods in their plants. This includes recycling and reuse of materials in their manufacturing processes and the use of fluorescent lighting in their facilities.
- Using streamlined distribution processes, helping to conserve fuel, energy and other natural resources.
